A rare opportunity to catch some classic LA short documentaries, all made by students in the UCLA Ethnocommunications class taught by Robert Nakamura.
810LOGY (2004), my first documentary to ever make it into a film festival, is about the history and growth of my multi-ethnic skateboard crew from Westside Long Beach, 810 CREW!
There will be a special appearance by Ralph Santos, a.k.a. Shark!
You also don't want to miss the documentary film that was most influential to me when I first started out, BEATS, RHYMES, & RESISTANCE (1997). It's the first film I ever saw about Filipinos in Hip-Hop, specifically in LA. It was at this film's community premiere at SIPA in Historic Filipinotown that I first saw KIWI perform.
So in reality, this is the origin of my film, SOUNDS OF A NEW HOPE (2009).
